Boston State Hospital – Stony Brook

The abandoned Boston State Hospital site is a critical and strategically located link between the Metropolitan Boston neighborhoods of Mattapan, Roslindale, Dorchester, and Jamaica Plain. It hosts an Audubon Nature Center and joins with Franklin Park to share a place in Olmsted’s famous “Emerald Necklace” of parks.

The Stony Brook Plan proposes a mixed-use and “smart-growth” development encompassing both East and West Campuses of this former State Hospital site. It will include 150,000 square feet of commercial and retail development; 400 units of affordable and market-rate housing for families, seniors, and mentally impaired; A restored historic carriage house as a multi-service community center; and an open space reservation for a future public high school and associated playing fields.
